About The Position

The Nurse's Aide position at Mount Sinai Queens involves assisting nursing personnel in providing basic care for patients in a medical-surgical unit. Requirements

  • Current and valid NYS Certification for Nursing Assistants preferred.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of an accredited Nurse's Aide program preferred.
  • Six consecutive full-time months of CNA experience post-certification in long-term care preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from AHA.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a medical-surgical unit is a plus.
  • Bilingual skills may be beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Assist nursing personnel in provision of basic care for patients.
  • Perform personal care functions including bathing, skin care, toileting, grooming, and oral hygiene.
  • Assist with feeding of patients and measuring and recording intake and output.
  • Weigh patients using various scales and assist in turning and positioning them.
  • Utilize proper transfer techniques and demonstrate knowledge of safe use of medical equipment.
  • Keep patient rooms clean and supplied, and make and change beds as needed.
  • Transport patients, supplies, and equipment as required.
  • Assist nurses and other personnel as needed, including ambulating patients who require minimal assistance.
  • Apply simple, non-sterile dressings and perform skin assessments, notifying RNs of any abnormalities.
  • Apply heat or cold presses as directed by an RN and answer patient calls, taking appropriate action.
  • Collect and label specimens and measure and record vital signs, reporting variations to RNs.
  • Report any changes in clients' conditions or incidents to the Nursing Supervisor.
  • Participate in case conferences with other healthcare team members as appropriate.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all clients and healthcare staff.
  • Meet annual inservice requirements and enhance skills through staff development training.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and comply with agency dress code.
  • Foster a cooperative manner towards clients, families, and healthcare team members.
