About The Position

The Nursery/Irrigation Worker at Civano Nursery Inc. is responsible for performing various tasks related to the production of ornamental and nursery stock, including trees, shrubs, and other horticultural varieties. This role involves both general farm work and specific irrigation duties, ensuring the proper growth and maintenance of plants and crops.

Requirements

  • Ability to operate farm machinery and equipment safely and effectively.
  • Knowledge of horticultural practices and plant care techniques.
  • Physical stamina to perform manual labor and lift heavy objects.
  • Basic mechanical skills for equipment maintenance and repairs.

Responsibilities

  • Apply specific techniques for the production of ornamental and nursery stock.
  • Maintain, drive, attach, and operate farm implements, tractors, and equipment.
  • Make minor mechanical adjustments and repairs on farm machinery.
  • Remove undesirable and excess growth from crops or farm grounds.
  • Maintain and repair fences.
  • Lift, carry, and load/unload trucks and products or supplies.
  • Plant, spray, weed, fertilize, water, and prune plants, shrubs, and trees.
  • Move containerized shrubs, plants, and trees using wheelbarrows or tractors.
  • Participate in the inspection, grading, sorting, storage, and post-harvest treatment of crops.
  • Harvest plants, transplant or pot and label them.
  • Mix, spray, and apply chemicals such as herbicides, fungicides, and fertilizers.
  • Haul and spread soil or products to condition land.
  • Fill growing tanks with water and dig/rake and screen soil.
  • Perform general clean-up of farm areas and worksites.
  • Operate tractor, truck, or forklift to load/unload products.
  • Connect pipes and check alignment for proper water distribution.
  • Turn on pumps and valves to start the flow of water.
  • Lift and carry pipe sections weighing approximately 40 pounds on a sustained basis.
  • Maintain and repair drip irrigation systems.
