About The Position

Westlake Dermatology has an immediate opening for a Part-Time Registered Nurse to assist cosmetic dermatologists at our Bee Caves Austin location. The schedule will be either M/W/F or W/TH/F, about 15 hours a week. Biligual in Spanish required. Job Summary: This position will assist the physician and provide nursing assessment and care to the patient. Requires repetitive movement, including standing for greater than 30 minutes, bending, lifting and positioning patients and equipment. Applicant must be able to work well with others in a group or team, including physicians, patients, other staff and the public. Requires critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Prefer 1-2 years of OR experience.

Requirements

  • Good problem solving and analytical skills with a good understanding of anatomy and medical terminology
  • Must have excellent communications skills and empathetic with patient needs and concerns
  • Excellent communication skills and all sensory skills required (speech, vision, smell, touch, and hearing)
  • Biligual in Spanish required

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer 1-2 years of OR experience.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for assessing, planning, organizing, administering and evaluating patient care
  • scrubbing /assisting along side the surgeon in surgical cases
  • Circulating in the OR
  • Utilizes assessment skills and techniques to determine patient needs and condition upon encounter and throughout procedures
  • Completes charting documentation accurately and thoroughly
  • Collaborates with other health team members in planning and providing care
  • Provides safe and comprehensive nursing care according to state regulations, WD policy and procedure, and Joint Commission standards
  • Establish care priorities on individual case basis and per physician preference
  • Establish an effective relationship with patients and staff to facilitate the development of the care plan
  • Must be proficient in medication administration
  • Must be proficient in nursing procedures such as suture removal, dressing changes and surgical assisting in all areas of the face/body
  • Performs procedures accurately, completely and safely according to established policy and procedure and physician orders
  • Provide care with minimal supervision in a timely manner
  • Maintains a safe environment for patients and uses all safety precautions appropriately
  • Demonstrates understanding and utilization of Universal Precautions, asepsis and infection control procedures
  • In a normal work day may be required to stand and/or walk for 8 hours or longer. Ability/agility to bend, stoop, and lift in assisting patients prior to and following surgery is required
  • Mental ability to recognize adverse signs and symptoms and to cope with and function effectively during stressful/emergency situations
  • Observes and assesses patients’ clinical condition; recognizes, identifies and interprets serious situations and acts accordingly
  • Remains calm, polite, and positive with others when under pressure
  • Avoids excessive use of unscheduled absences/tardiness as defined by WD policy
  • Set up, operates and monitors specialized equipment. Assists in the care and handling of supplies and equipment including operating tables, lights, electrocautery, suction machines, special instruments, etc.
  • Able to educate patient as required by physician following surgery, procedure, office visit, etc. Ensures patient understands the treatment plan, what to expect, proper use of medications, and their responsibility for compliance with the treatment plan prior to leaving the office.
