Provide necessary health-related services to enhance the students’ fullest potential for learning, growing and developing. Provide health education and preventive health practices for students to promote, maintain and restore health. Conduct health screening, physical assessment and reporting to appropriate district personnel, agencies and parents. Adhere to federal and state laws, as well as, district policies procedures and regulations. Essential Functions Identify health conditions/concerns that interfere with learning through health screenings and physical assessments; develop and implement individual health care plans as required. Implement Texas regulations and laws regarding immunizations, child abuse and mandatory health screenings, including but not limited to vision, hearing, and scoliosis. Provide parents/guardians appropriate assistance and information needed for follow-up referral activities relevant to their child’s health needs. Review student health status for placement in special programs and serve on Admission, Review and Dismissal (ARD) committees when requested. Maintain confidentiality concerning student/employee physical and mental health conditions or concerns. Interpret student health problems to personnel who have a need to know through appropriate protocols of confidentiality. Provide emergency nursing service for ill or injured students/employees on the school campus or at school sponsored activities. Request emergency medical services (EMS) as necessary. Anticipate health clinic supplies and equipment to maintain a continuous, functional program. Provide nursing services such as administering medication, peritoneal dialysis, catheterization, tube feedings and suctioning as directed by physician orders and/or city/state health regulations. Develop and maintain a health services program directed toward the control of communicable diseases. Render nursing services as needed for individual students and employees. Counsel students/employees with health conditions/concerns and provide appropriate follow-up when needed. Serve as a health education resource and consultant to staff, students and parents. Administer medication, treatments, and related professional services according to district, local, state and federal requirements. Assist in identification of safety and health hazards on the school campus. Serve as an accident location interviewer if designated by the principal. Prepare and maintain complete and accurate records as required by administrative regulations, district policy, and state and federal agencies. Assume responsibility for continuing education and submit evidence to the department of Health Services of registered nurse license renewal as well as screening certifications and Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation/Automated External Defibrillator (CPR/AED) certification on or before expiration date of renewal. Comply with all district and campus policies and procedures. Provide on-call assistance to other schools as needed and take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities. Attendance at the work site is required to meet essential functions of the job.
