About The Position

The Nurse Technician RN Student position at Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System is designed for nursing students in their Junior or Senior year, providing essential patient care and support under the supervision of registered nurses. This role focuses on assisting with daily living activities, monitoring patient conditions, and ensuring a clean and safe environment for patients in the Med/Surg ICU.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a Registered Nurse accredited School of Nursing program (Junior or Senior level).
• BLS Certification.
• Basic patient care skills as verified by nursing program competencies.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology.

Responsibilities

• Assist in patient admission, discharge, and transfer of patients.
• Measure, collect, and document patient data according to policy (e.g., weight, vital signs, O2 saturation).
• Report symptoms, reactions, and changes in patients' conditions to the Registered Nurse.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living (personal hygiene, linen changes, meals, elimination).
• Support the transportation and mobility needs of patients.
• Retrieve medications from the pneumatic tube system and deliver them to the nurse.
• Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of patient rooms and nursing station areas.
• Assist physicians with examinations, treatments, and special tests.
• Collect and transport patient specimens to the lab.
• Perform procedures under the direction of a Registered Nurse, consistent with nursing education standards.
• Utilize equipment safely for patient care as directed by a Registered Nurse.
• Adhere to nursing standards and institutional policies to enhance quality and efficiency of care.
• Participate in continuous quality improvement programs.
• Report behavioral or psychological changes in patients to the assigned nurse.
