Akron General’s 5400 Oncology Unit provides care to cancer patients, trains caregivers to give therapy, and provides hands-on learning to achieve chemotherapy competency. As a Nurse Technician, you will offer basic direct patient care activities under the supervision of an RN to Hematology and Oncology patients, some of which will require inpatient hospice and end of life care. A compassionate, supportive attitude can make all the difference for those receiving treatment. A caregiver in this position works varying 4-hour shifts, which can include days, evenings, nights and weekends.

Requirements

  • Nursing student in good standing in an accredited Nursing School Program OR an unlicensed graduate of an accredited Nursing School Program
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
  • Maintain competencies specific to patient population served
  • Satisfactorily complete hospital orientation

Responsibilities

  • Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN. Patient care may include vital signs, weight, assisting patients with personal care and activities of daily living, patient transfers/transport, pulse oximetry, point of care testing, dressing changes, applying external monitoring devices and removing urinary Foley catheter.
  • Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental, and emotional conditions to RN.
  • Assist with keeping patients' rooms clean & orderly.
  • Complete mandatory education and training to maintain organization and department-specific competencies and requirements.
