Under supervision and in collaboration with other health care professionals, the Nurse Tech (CNA) assists in performing a variety of nursing care services for patients. This role involves receiving patient care assignments from a registered nurse, initiating delegated tasks based on demonstrated competence, and collecting and documenting patient data for assessments and scheduling. The Nurse Tech informs licensed nurses of any changes in patient condition, complaints, or educational needs, and is responsible for stocking and maintaining supplies and equipment. Clerical duties such as answering phones, relaying messages, and organizing medical records are also part of the role. In an inpatient setting, responsibilities include answering patient calls, taking vital signs, monitoring patient conditions, assisting with personal care (baths, feeding, hygiene), performing dressing changes, ostomy care, and preparing patients for discharge. In an outpatient environment, the role involves managing referrals for specialist appointments. The position requires providing patient care to individuals three years of age or older, working in a constant state of alertness and safety, and may include performing point of care testing.
