About The Position
About this unit: 7MHC is a 46-bed unit that cares for cardio-thoracic patients after surgery . We specialize in both cardiac, pulmonary and transplant care. Our primary patient populations are post-operative coronary artery bypass (CABG), cardiac valve surgeries, lung surgeries, heart, and lung transplant, and VAD patients (an artificial heart pump). We admit post-surgical patients’ day of surgery, after the cardiovascular recovery unit or from the Cardiothoracic ICU (CTCC) depending on their procedure and clinical needs. If a patient needs intensive care, they are transferred to CTCC and return to us when their condition has stabilized. Our patients are very complex and require medical, physical, and emotional support. Scope of Work Nurse Technicians act as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN).
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- LIFE SUPPORT\Basic Life Support (BLS) Within 90 Days
Responsibilities
- Responsibilities include taking vitals, checking blood sugars, bed bathing, ambulating, wound care, catheterization and acting as a safety attendant for patients.
- Collects and reports physiological, psychological, sociocultural and spiritual needs of patients and families in coordination with and as delineated by the RN or Provider.
- Ensures that required documentation is performed in an accurate and timely manner.
- Provides direct patient care under the direction of the RN or Provider, consistent with clinical policies and procedures, and department standard work.
- Provides input in the development of an individualized plan of care.
- Ensures that required documentation is performed in an accurate and timely manner.
- Articulates the nursing technician role to the patient, family and health team members.
- Provides support to facilitate safe, quality patient care in a cost-effective manner.
- Cleans patient’s environment / work area / equipment and communicates any equipment malfunctions to appropriate department / unit personnel.
- Demonstrates a high standard of moral and ethical behavior.
- Advocates for privacy, confidentiality and security of patient, staff and organization data.
