About The Position

The Nurse Tech Assistant in the Med Surg department at Bolivar Medical Center is responsible for providing basic nursing care to non-acutely ill patients while assisting in maintaining a safe and clean environment. This role involves working under the supervision of a registered nurse and requires effective communication and patient interaction skills.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) preferred.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 90 days of hire or transfer.
  • Blood Glucose Monitoring Training Program certification required within 90 days of hire or transfer.
  • Successful completion of orientation checklist and skills/credentials/competency requirements of specific area of work.
  • Ability to maintain a high awareness of patient satisfaction and teamwork.
  • Attention to detail and adaptability to perform well under pressure.
  • Basic computer knowledge and proficiency in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems.
  • Critical thinking skills and decisive judgment with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient time management skills.
  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language.

Responsibilities

  • Performs basic medical tasks such as measuring and recording vital signs, temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, blood pressure, and intake-output.
  • Answers patients call lights, anticipates patient needs, and makes rounds of assigned patients.
  • Transports patients to various departments for ordered tests/procedures.
  • Provides patient care that meets the psychosocial and physical needs of the patient within the scope of practice for a certified nursing assistant/nursing assistant.
  • Assists with patient admissions, discharges, and transfers.
  • Provides morning and evening care, including bed baths, oral hygiene, and changing bed linens.
  • Provides general nursing assistant care such as positioning, lifting, and turning patients.
  • Prepares patients for meals, serves and removes food trays, and assists with feeding if necessary.
  • Knowledgeable of sterile techniques and infection control procedures.
  • Documents patient care in accordance with current standards and policies.
  • Communicates clearly with patients, physicians, family members, and co-workers.
  • Observes and reports changes in patients' mental and physical conditions to supervising RN.
  • Interacts professionally with patients and families, addressing their psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs.
