The State of Vermont is seeking experienced Registered Nurses to join the Department of Disabilities, Aging, and Independent Living (DAIL) as Nurse Surveyors. This role is pivotal in ensuring that healthcare facilities comply with the regulations set forth by the State of Vermont and the Federal Government, specifically the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). As a Nurse Surveyor, you will leverage your nursing expertise to assess the quality of care and services provided by various healthcare facilities, including nursing homes, hospitals, and home health agencies. This position is ideal for nurses from diverse backgrounds, including those with experience in hospitals, public health, and healthcare administration, as it allows for a variety of perspectives to enhance the evaluation process. The job is primarily home-based but requires significant travel throughout Vermont, necessitating overnight stays in hotels several times a month. The typical work schedule involves three days in the field and one day working from home, with occasional evening and weekend work expected. You will be responsible for conducting onsite observations, interviews, and record reviews to identify any deficiencies in care and services, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations. Collaboration with other surveyors is essential to evaluate compliance in providing quality care and life, and you will be expected to write deficiency statements and complete reports according to CMS guidelines. Successful candidates will need to demonstrate proficiency in computer applications and will be required to pass a CMS Federal Qualification Test within six to twelve months of hire. This position is open to both state employees and external applicants, and candidates must pass a background investigation as part of the hiring process.
