About The Position

The Nurse, Surgery Data Abstractor at the University of Missouri Health Care is responsible for reviewing and abstracting surgery data from the organization's medical records system. This role ensures compliance with nationally recognized patient care processes and clinical outcomes, particularly related to the ACS National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) registry. The position requires strong attention to detail and the ability to work effectively under tight deadlines.

Requirements

• RN License from Missouri Board of Nursing or Nurse Licensure Compact multi-state RN.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in documentation review, quality, and education/communication with physicians.

Responsibilities

• Gather, enter, and harvest data from databases, compile information, and prepare reports to facilitate efficient workloads.
• Identify trends and issues for corrective action.
• Perform data abstraction from chart review/EMR for specific patient populations related to the registry.
• Interact with patient care providers to ensure quality documentation practices and clarify documentation policies/procedures.
• Communicate effectively with providers regarding documentation criteria and guidelines.
• Present information to service line leadership.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of registry standards and communicate changes to appropriate personnel.
• Serve as a subject matter expert and educational resource specific to designated registry.
