About The Position

SUMMARY: Reporting to the Manager of Hospital Supervisors and CNO is responsible for supervision, staffing, and scheduling of all Nursing and Behavioral Health Staff during their shift. Serves as first-line administrator in consultation with the Nursing Administrator on Call and D.O.C. as needed. Provides clinical support for decision making as well as direct patient care. Ensures that policies and procedures are observed. Requirements

  • Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
  • Graduate of a school of nursing with current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
  • Maintain current SafetyCare and AHA BLS certification and Lead RN training.
  • Three to five years of recent acute psychiatric nursing experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of hospital supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Is accountable for the creation and support of a workplace culture of safety, including team approaches to patient safety, an atmosphere which promotes reporting of safety incidents, and which places focus on staffing, communication, and prevention of adverse outcomes.
  • Accountable to support the Hospital-wide patient safety program in all areas.
  • Rounds on all units throughout the shift; obtaining report from all charge RN’s at the start and end of the shift.
  • Serves as a member of the code team, leading as necessary.
  • Ensures adequate staff response and facilitating debriefing process.
  • Provides clinical support and guidance as needed.
  • Acts as immediate Incident Commander when situation warrants.
  • Identifies and manages risk; checks in with Charge RN on a regular basis throughout the shift.
  • Ensures compliance with Brown University Health/Bradley policies.
  • Ensures adequate Nursing/Milieu staffing.
  • Serves as first line nursing administrator during evening, night, weekends and holiday shifts.
  • Coordinates admissions including registration of patients when Patient Registration Departmentccess Department is closed.
  • Off hours liaison for Pharmacy, Laboratory and Medical Supply services.
  • Regularly reads email and responds to pager alerts and requests in a timely manner.
  • Observes and enforce all general hospital policies, rules and regulations.
  • Compliance with NetLearning assignments and certifications without lapse, independent of reminders.
