About The Position

The primary purpose of the Nurse Supervisor I (NSI) is to perform supervisory functions and ensure competent care for all residents at Caswell Developmental Center. The NSI oversees all aspects of services provided within a division or specialty unit, ensuring that physically and mentally disabled individuals receive optimal health support. This role includes supervising Certified Nurse Assistants, Healthcare Technicians, Home Managers, and Healthcare Supervisors I by assigning duties, monitoring performance, and providing coaching, feedback, and training. The NSI exercises a high level of independent clinical judgment, assists with professional and administrative problem-solving, and ensures consistent, competent care across all shifts, including occasional weekend supervision. Responsibilities also include conducting quality assurance audits, identifying training needs, and maintaining close communication with the NSII, Division Director, DSI, DSCII, and other departmental supervisors. Additionally, the NSI may serve on committees or task forces and acts as a liaison to ensure rapid resolution of care issues and continuity of services. The position reports directly to the Delta NSII and utilizes this role as a key resource.

Requirements

  • Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina and two years of nursing experience.

  • Considerable knowledge of management, supervisory methods, and trends in licensed and unlicensed nursing education is essential.
  • The ability to mentor new staff, advise management on strategic planning, policies, and organizational issues, and effectively communicate, coach, and counsel employees is required.
  • The NSI must evaluate the quality of services delivered, implement improvements, and maintain established standards of care.
  • All five senses must be intact for assessment and observation, and the individual must have the physical ability to respond to emergencies.
