Serves as research protocol content best practice expert and resource to both our external and internal customers. Implement best practices and adherence to standards set by regulatory agencies and professional organizations including but not limited to Oncology Nursing Society’s Manual for Clinical Trials Nursing. Participates in the development and revision of research policies and procedures. Demonstrate a high level of research knowledge and its integration with the operational aspects of the research unit(s). Serves as a subject matter expert and resource to research questions that may arise on the unit(s). Utilizes independent learning methods to become knowledgeable about new protocols and protocol changes. Collaborates with IT to ensure implementation of best practices in IT tools for research patients. Fosters a climate that promotes open communication and facilitates the professional growth of the learner. Attends staff meetings and other meetings as needed. Ensures compliance with all facility policies and procedures and all regulatory and governing body standards and regulations.

  • Provides professional development rounds with intention of identifying key areas for development on infusion staff.
  • Coordinates with the Nurse Manager/Director the development of personnel to include recruitment, retention, competency development and deployment and professional development activities.
  • Works with Clinical Practice to deploy training and competencies for onboarding and ongoing education to facilitate expert level knowledge of research infusion nurses.
  • Systematically and continuously evaluates staff learning needs utilizing competency-based criteria.
  • Coordinates with the Nurse Manager/Director to assure staff compliance with mandatory education, licensure requirements, continuing education and applicable certifications and professional practice standards.
  • Maintains documentation of hospital required licensures and certifications for staff as assigned.
  • Identifies priority areas, organizes and assists with the development of research educational programs and in-services for staff.
  • Engages clinical research staff participation in planning and meeting educational needs of research staff.
  • Works collaboratively with the research team and principal investigator in planning, development, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of research protocol specific education as needed.
  • Provides ongoing assessment of learning needs through direct observation, formal needs assessment, and research program evaluation.
  • Develops programs with a focus on quality outcomes, nursing care and Process Improvement.
  • Actively supports and participates in performance improvement activities.
  • Performs chart audits and random audits on unit, notes trends in compliance, makes recommendations for improvement based on outcomes, implements counter measures for success.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains continuous quality improvement programs concerning infusion services and related patient care.
