The Registered Nurse (RN) carries out patient care responsibilities and executes provider’s orders with emphasis on decision-making related to the steps in the nursing process to include assessment, identification of expected outcomes, planning, implementation and evaluation of the patient's response to their care. These responsibilities also include patient/family/significant other education and health maintenance strategies. The RN is a member of a multi-disciplinary health care team and collaborates and coordinates with team members to provide integrated quality patient care and achieve desired patient outcomes. The Registered Nurse demonstrates knowledge of the principles of human growth and development over the life span, recognizes socioeconomic and psychiatric barriers to healthcare, and has the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age, specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described by standards and policy and procedures. As an Infection Control Specialist, the RN would specializes in identifying, controlling, and preventing outbreaks of infection in healthcare settings and the community. Activities include the collection and analysis of infection-control data; the planning, implementation, and evaluation of infection control measures; the education of individuals about infection control and the development of health systems policies and procedures to ensure rigorous infection control standards that meet Joint Commission, OSHA, Department of Health and CDC requirements; the investigation of suspected outbreaks of infection; and the provision of consultation on infection risk assessment, prevention and control strategies.
