About The Position

Under the direction of the Program Manager and Flight Surgeon/Medical Director, the Flight Nurse is accountable for responding to all assigned calls in the most appropriate and efficient manner, providing high standards of patient care while ensuring a safe and hazard free environment. The Flight Nurse contributes to overall patient care in areas of patient assessment, treatment, packaging and transport. This position interacts throughout the facility internally, and with patients and their families externally. In addition, this position interacts with various first response agencies and health-care providers, physicians and hospital personnel externally. As a member of an academic flight program, crew members take an active role in outreach educational initiatives including but not limited to: outreach education to EMS, as well as education and resource performance improvement for Trauma Service Area agencies.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in nursing.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Must obtain a BSN degree from an accredited school of nursing within three years of hire or transfer for new hires effective June 14, 2017.
  • Three years of Critical Care, Trauma, or ED experience.
  • Licensed to practice nursing in the State of Florida.
  • Florida Paramedic License.
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications from the American Heart Association.
  • Advanced Trauma Care Nurse (ATCN) certification OR Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) within six months of hire or transfer.
  • Air Crew Core Curriculum Certificate of Completion within six months of hire or transfer.
  • Must have one of the following professional certifications at time of hire or transfer: CEN, CCRN, CFRN, CTRN, or TCRN.

Nice To Haves

  • BS degree in nursing.
  • National Registry Paramedic certification.
  • Transport Professional Advanced Trauma Course (TPATC) certification.
  • CCRN or CEN certification.
  • Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) certification.
  • Emergency Pediatric Care certification.
  • Prehospital patient care experience.
