About The Position

Provides high quality nursing care for assigned patients in a scientific and humanistic focus. The Newly Licensed Registered Nurse (NLRN) utilizes a holistic systems approach to protect and promote client wellness and safety in the physiological, psychological, social cultural, developmental, and spiritual domains. Nursing interventions are interdisciplinary, age specific and are directed toward optimal wellness.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a Diploma, Associate Degree or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program.
  • Passed the state board examination by the New York State Board of Nursing.
  • NLRNs from Diploma or Associate Degree programs must complete a BSN within 5 years of hire.
  • Successfully complete a medication and IV challenge examination during orientation.
  • Maintain CPR certification.

Responsibilities

  • Collects data and information relative to the healthcare consumer’s health or the situation.
  • Involves patient, family, other healthcare providers in holistic data collection.
  • Determines priority of data collections by the patient’s immediate condition or anticipated needs.
  • Reviews patient record daily including physician progress notes, laboratory values and nurses’ notes.
  • Documents data in a retrievable format.
  • Utilizes evidence‐based assessment techniques and resources to identify patterns and variances.
  • Protects the privacy of collected data based on hospital policies.
  • Shares knowledge and skills with peers and colleagues.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to lifelong learning.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities.
  • Analyzes the assessment data to determine actual or potential diagnoses, problems, and issues.
  • Identifies actual and/or potential risks to health and safety.
  • Develops outcomes involving the patient, family and other healthcare providers.
  • Develops a plan of care and identifies priorities with the patient, family and interprofessional team.
  • Implements the identified plan in a safe, effective, efficient, timely, patient-centered and equitable manner.
  • Coordinates care delivery and engages the patient in self-care.
  • Provides health teaching and health promotion methods to meet the varied needs of patients.
  • Evaluates progress toward the attainment of goals and outcomes.
  • Performs nursing care in compliance with nursing standards of practice.
