SUMMARY: The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner treats psychiatric illness and addiction in the outpatient and/ or the inpatient setting and acts as an educator, consultant and liaison to healthcare providers caring for patients across the care continuum. The core Success Factors include: Instill Trust and Value Differences Patient and Community Focus and Collaborate RESPONSIBILITIES: The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner: Demonstrates a fundamental grounding in nursing theory and practice and mastery of the medical management of psychiatric illness and substance use disorders. Manages a caseload of patients in partnership with the healthcare team to optimize health status and coordinate care over time and across healthcare settings. Provides leadership in the development, validation, implementation, and evaluation of standards, policies, procedures, and critical paths to support the patient care delivery model. Oversees care coordination in acute, home care, and ambulatory care settings as feasible. Assists the healthcare team to achieve mutually agreed upon healthcare goals by providing necessary support, education and encouragement. Demonstrates advanced physical and psychosocial assessment skills and knowledge of family dynamics. Provides direct care to patients in acute care, ambulatory care and home care settings. Performs advanced practice skills under the supervision of the Medical Director. Provides expert consultation for clinical issues promoting increased knowledge and skills for the consultee. Participates in the education, clinical research and mentoring of healthcare providers. Facilitates patient/family education in area of expertise. Annually completes mandatory safety infection control, BLS, and ACLS/PALS. Prescriptive privileges per licensure.
