The nurse practitioner functions as an independent care provider in collaboration with the medical/surgical staff, Their advance practice is characterized by comprehensive health assessments and management of patients with acute and/or chronic health problems, Obtain patient histories and perform physical examination, Write admitting orders, routine orders and daily progress notes as indicated, Assess and manage common health problems, Order and evaluate pertinent diagnostic tests including but not limited to: Radiology, laboratories and ECGs, Prescribe pharmacological agents and non pharmacological treatments for appropriate medical conditions, Educate patients and/or families regarding disease process, medical intervention and health promotion, Document patient teaching, Refers and communicates pertinent abnormalities to medical director/medical specialist, Performs clinical procedures, Removal of invasive drains, lines and catheters, debridement of superficial wound, and perform arterial blood gases, Serves as a resource for nursing and ancillary staff in regard to patient and disease management, Facilitate practices that are in compliance with PRO-NJ and JCAHO requirements,
