General Description  Under the guidance of the Program Manager, the Nurse Practitioner will provide daily medical care to patients for pre-employment examinations, work-related injuries or illnesses, disability examinations, and any other requests for medical care.  This position will assess patient needs, order and interpret diagnostic and laboratory tests, formulate and prescribe medications and treatment plans.  This is an onsite position in Wallops Island, Virginia.

Requirements

  • Certification as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician’s Assistant – Licensure in the state of Maryland.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience in ambulatory or emergency care.
  • Certification Basic Cardiac Life Support Course C, provider certification.
  • Completion of annual Bloodborne Pathogen Training.
  • Proficiency in EKG interpretation.
  • Able to analyze and interpret Spirometry and Audiometric data in accordance with NASA, GRC, and OSHA regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, direct, control, coordinate, and evaluate medical examinations, activities and associated medical care for NASA support personnel at the NASA GSFC Wallops Island location.
  • Examine patients, perform physical exams, and manage patient medical data including health history and results of physical exams, radiological and laboratory tests.
  • Provide recommendations and support diagnosis with the attending physician, as required.
  • Maintains familiarity with all emergency procedures and medical operating instructions and policies.
  • Provides preventative, therapeutic, restorative, and maintenance aspects of health care.
  • Consults with other health care providers including Physicians, Registered Nurses, Paramedics and EMT’s, Security Staff, Industrial Hygienists and Safety personnel.
  • Identifies emergency situations, summons appropriate assistance, and provides care within the legal scope of practice.
  • Assists in active implementation of Company initiatives to ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Voluntary Protection programs (VPP), Joint Commission on Accreditation of healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and other mandated regulatory or conformance regulations/standards.
  • Manage and maintain electronic health record systems.
