About The Position

Under general guidance, the Nurse Practitioner will deliver high-quality, patient-centered medical care for a variety of occupational health needs, including pre-employment evaluations, work-related injuries and illnesses, disability assessments, and other health services as requested. This position will support operations at Stennis Space Center (SSC) and includes conducting physical examinations, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, and developing and managing treatment plans, including prescribing medications. The Nurse Practitioner collaborates closely with the healthcare team to ensure continuity of care and compliance with regulatory standards.

Requirements

  • Active licensure as a Registered Nurse and certification or eligibility as a Nurse Practitioner (Adult or Family) in the state of Mississippi
  • National certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the AANP
  • Current Mississippi DEA license
  • DOT-certified medical examiner
  • Minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience in ambulatory, occupational health, or emergency care settings
  • Proficient in analyzing radiographic images, laboratory results, and other diagnostic tests
  • Current certifications in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Certified by the Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOHC)
  • Certified Medical Inspector (CMI) for Breath Alcohol Testing
  • Certified DOT Urine Drug Screen Collector
  • Certified in tuberculosis (TB) surveillance and testing
  • NIOSH-approved Spirometry Training certification
  • Experience analyzing and interpreting spirometry and audiometric data in accordance with NASA, SCC, OSHA, and NIOSH regulations

Responsibilities

  • Conduct physical examinations and assess patients for occupational health needs, including pre-placement, return-to-work, fit-for-duty, and annual exams.
  • Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests and laboratory results to support clinical decision-making.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor treatment plans, including prescribing medications within scope of practice.
  • Provide preventative, therapeutic, and restorative care while promoting employee health and wellness.
  • Coordinate case management and follow-up care for injured or ill employees, ensuring continuity and quality of care.
  • Perform health surveillance and screenings (e.g., audiometry, spirometry), deliver vaccinations, and provide bloodborne pathogen training.
  • Educate employees on ergonomics, safe work practices, and healthy lifestyle choices to support injury prevention and overall well-being.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential employee health records in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, fitness specialists, EMTs, industrial hygienists, safety personnel, HR, and leadership to support regulatory compliance and injury prevention efforts.
  • Assist in managing and tracking medical supply inventory and medication ordering.
  • Support emergency response readiness and remain familiar with site-specific emergency procedures.
  • Serve as a liaison with offsite healthcare providers to coordinate external referrals and ensure continuity of care.
