About The Position

This Nurse Practitioner position involves providing comprehensive patient care to adult and geriatric patients within a clinic environment. Key responsibilities include obtaining and documenting patient medical histories, identifying health risk factors, and performing various clinical procedures such as minor office surgeries, applying casts and splints, and suturing lacerations. The role requires developing and implementing detailed treatment plans, which encompass medication management (both opioid and non-opioid), ordering and interpreting injection treatments, prescribing conservative therapies like physical therapy, chiropractic medicine, and pool therapy, and ordering/interpreting imaging studies and laboratory results. The Nurse Practitioner is expected to promote positive health behaviors through education and counseling, apply standardized care guidelines, and provide referrals to other healthcare professionals and community resources when appropriate. This role emphasizes patient safety, maintaining confidentiality, and functioning as a patient advocate. The practitioner will work collaboratively with a supervising physician and other healthcare team members to ensure optimal patient outcomes, while also working independently under physician oversight. Continuous professional development through continuing education and participation in performance improvement activities is also a core aspect of the role.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner’s Program
  • Demonstrates evidence of progressive nursing experience
  • Possesses basic computer skills
  • Performs minor office surgeries, applies casts and splints, and sutures lacerations
  • Possesses clinical assessment, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
  • Registered Nurse licensed by the Indiana State Board of Nursing
  • National Certification as a Nurse Practitioner
  • CPR
  • ACLS

Responsibilities

  • Consistently complies with established Behavioral Expectations
  • Demonstrates the ability to work with adult, and geriatric patients
  • Obtains and documents patient’s medical history
  • Identifies health risk factors
  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors
  • Develops treatment plans that include: Medication management (opioid and non-opioid)
  • Ordering appropriate injection treatments
  • Interpreting the effectiveness of injection therapies
  • Prescribing conservative therapies (physical therapy, chiropractic medicine, pool therapy)
  • Ordering and interpreting imaging studies and labs
  • Encourages positive health behaviors for the maintenance of health and the prevention of disease through education and counseling
  • Applies standardized care guidelines in clinical practice
  • Provides patient and/or family with health education, counseling, and referrals to other healthcare professionals and community resources when appropriate
  • Treats patients and families with respect and dignity
  • Works with collaborating physician and other physicians/members of the health team to plan optimal care for the patient
  • Works independently while a supervising physician maintains oversight
  • Works with the patient and family to formulate a patient treatment and education plan
  • Treats assigned patients, both new and follow-up
  • Provides follow-up care, determines effectiveness of the treatment plan, reassesses, and changes the plan as needed
  • Appropriately refers patients to outside specialties, i.e., orthopedics and neurosurgery
  • Completes documentation that meets all standards and policies
  • Documents all findings, interventions, and results
  • Always maintains patient confidentiality
  • Functions as a patient advocate
  • Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized, and to function under stressful situations
  • Participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities
  • Stays current with medical advancements, new technology, and new drugs through continuing education classes, society meetings, professional journals, etc.
  • Follows the five medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors
  • Attends all departmental, organizational and medical staff committee meetings as appropriate
  • Works collaboratively with physician to develop and implement specific clinic policies and procedures
  • Willingly works with staff members as a team
  • Assures adequate patient records are maintained and transferred as requested
  • Knows and adheres to the rules and regulations governing the clinic
  • Accepts other duties as assigned.
