As a mid-level professional Nurse Practitioner this position provides direct medical care and services to adult offenders incarcerated at Montana State Prison and Montana State Correctional Treatment Center, ensuring that such care is clinically appropriate and constitutionally adequate. Position is responsible for maintaining ethical standards of medical practice at all times while providing clinically professional direct medical care and services. Position supports a primary care model which includes preventive health measures and self-care in coordination with the Department’s managed care/cost containment objectives and consults regularly with the Physician and Health Services Manager on problematic cases or those requiring primary physician or medical specialty care. Position actively participates in medical and prison activities and teams to improve medical services and ensure inmate medical needs are being appropriately responded and attended to, these activities may include but are not limited to\: Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI, Special Needs/Treatment Planning committee and the member of the treatment team in Chronic Care Clinics. Participates in Department of Corrections Medical Review Panel (MRP) and is available to the Department’s legal counsel in any litigation relative to medical care at MWP.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree from an accredited APRN program as an Advanced Practice Nurse.
  • Statutory requirements for professional nursing found at 37-8-405 and 37-8-406, MCA, and ARM 24.159 part 12.
  • Must be a graduate of an accredited college or university degree in nursing.
  • Must be currently licensed as a Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the State of Montana as prescribed by the Board of Nursing.
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis

Responsibilities
