This position provides direct patient care relative to physical diagnosis and therapeutic management independently, using physician consultation where appropriate. The role involves assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the plan of care for a panel of patients. This includes evaluating individual health care status, eliciting patient history, performing physical examinations, ordering screening and diagnostic tests, risk assessment, and interpreting information to establish a diagnosis. The Nurse Practitioner develops and implements a plan of care, including treatments and medications within defined guidelines, and provides care that incorporates patient satisfaction and cost-effective delivery. They participate in developing and evaluating practice guidelines, monitor patient response to therapy, and revise plans with a focus on education, counseling, and self-care. The role also involves providing individualized patient orientation, seeking consultation from physicians and healthcare team members, and making appropriate referrals. Furthermore, the Nurse Practitioner identifies learning needs of patients and staff, collaborates on educational programs, participates in interdisciplinary education, and provides clinical precepting for various students. They are expected to provide leadership supporting APG and BIDHC practice policies and goals.
