About The Position

The Cardiology Nurse Practitioner (NP) – Hospital Rounding is responsible for providing inpatient cardiovascular care across affiliated hospitals. This role focuses exclusively on hospital-based patient management, including acute and chronic cardiac conditions, care coordination, and procedural support. This position includes participation in call coverage but does not include outpatient clinic responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Master’s or Doctorate degree in Nursing (MSN/DNP) from an accredited program.
  • Board-certified Nurse Practitioner (ANCC, AANP) with AGACNP preferred; FNP with strong inpatient cardiology experience considered.
  • Active NP licensure in Missouri and Illinois.
  • Minimum of 2 years of cardiology or inpatient experience preferred.
  • Strong clinical decision-making skills in acute care settings.
  • Proficiency in EMR systems.
  • Ability to travel between hospital locations.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive cardiovascular assessments, including patient history, physical exams, and risk evaluations in the hospital setting.
  • Diagnose and manage acute and chronic cardiac conditions such as heart failure, arrhythmias, hypertension, and coronary artery disease.
  • Interpret diagnostic studies including EKGs, echocardiograms, lab results, and imaging.
  • Provide pre- and post-procedure care for hospitalized patients undergoing cardiac interventions (e.g., catheterizations, device implants).
  • Manage daily hospital rounds, including documentation, order entry, and care plan updates.
  • Collaborate with hospitalists, intensivists, and consulting teams to coordinate patient care.
  • Serve as a liaison between physicians, hospital staff, and ancillary services.
  • Coordinate admissions, transfers, and discharges with appropriate follow-up planning.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and families regarding care plans and prognosis.
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and case discussions.
  • Conduct peer-to-peer reviews with insurance companies for treatment approvals
  • Provide daily rounding services at assigned hospitals.
  • Respond to inpatient consults and urgent patient needs.
  • Support cardiologists with inpatient procedures and care coordination.
  • Assist with clinical research activities as applicable within the hospital setting.
  • Participate in night, weekend, and holiday call rotations.
  • Work one weekend per month (full-time) or every other month (part-time).
  • Cover one winter and one summer holiday annually.
  • Schedule primarily aligned with hospital rounding needs; no outpatient clinic schedule.
