About The Position

POSITION SUMMARY The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for providing primary care or specialty care services to patients. The Nurse Practitioner performs assessments, diagnoses and prescriptions of medical therapeutic corrective measures in collaboration with a physician in all clinical venues. The Nurse Practitioner participates as a member of the healthcare team, engages patients, families, and caregivers in coordination of patient care. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: Graduate of accredited Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner programs Experience: Three years of professional nursing experience in a clinical setting. Two years of nurse practitioner experience is preferred. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Demonstrates knowledge of professional nursing theory, medical practice and care protocols. Knowledge of patient health assessments, medication administration and delivering care following a treatment plan. Demonstrates skill in applying and modifying principles, methods and techniques of medicine to provide on-going patient care. Demonstrates skill in gathering, analyzing patient data and interprets findings. Skill in preparing and maintaining records utilizing computer software. Knowledge of physician office procedures, medical terminology, ICD-10 and CPT coding guidelines. Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations, procedures, prescribed medical standards and common safety hazards and precautions. Conducts business in a fast paced, stressful, high traffic medical office. May be exposed to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, bodily fluids and other conditions common to a clinic environment. Demonstrates strong interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrates the ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. License/Certification/Registration: State of Pennsylvania Registered Nurse license. Registered Nurse Practitioner Certification. Meets the American Heart Association’s standards for Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) and renews BLS every two years. Registered with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for authorization to prescribe controlled substances. Board Certified, Recertified or eligible by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) or American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Prescriptive Authority SUPERVISION RECEIVED Receives general supervision from the Physician / Practice Manager. SUPERVISION GIVEN None Responsibilities  ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Performs complete physical examinations; obtain patient’s medical history and records findings. Interprets and integrates data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures and interprets and integrates to determine preliminary diagnostic and therapeutic plans. Performs patient care by administering injections, immunizations and oral medications in compliance with applicable laws/guidelines and suturing wounds. Prepares written prescription orders for drugs and controlled substances. Documents patient information, test and examination results, and care provided in the patient’s paper or electronic health record. Triages patient telephone calls and provides consultation. Provides instructions to patients/families regarding medications and treatments. Provides monitoring and continuity of care between patient visits. Advises patients regarding health and illness prevention and recommends community resources to meet patient and family needs when applicable. Collaborates with physicians in managing acute and long-term medical needs of patients. Using the Electronic Health Record, documents and bills for services rendered. NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Performs related and miscellaneous duties as assigned.
