About The Position

The Nurse Practitioner provides psychiatric evaluations, diagnosis and medication management to clients. They provide physical exams and admission orders for detox clients.

Requirements

  • Advance Practice Nurse license required.
  • Successful completion of related training required.
  • One to two years’ experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents and licensure standards, etc.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to present information effectively to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization in one-on-one and small group situations.
  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of weight, measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to solve practical problems involving a variety of concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to performs assigned duties and responsibilities with neatness, accuracy and a degree of excellence in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work to the maximum capacity of all required expectations.
  • Nurse Practitioner license and all training required by agency.
  • Takes initiative to help the team and is flexible when asked to assist in other areas.
  • Consistently demonstrates positive and affirming behaviors even when addressing conflict or stressful situations.
  • Demonstrates concern for the overall team and understands how actions affect others.

  • Experience with chemical dependency issues preferred.

Responsibilities

  • EVALUATES detox clients and approves admission to detox and discharge from detox level of care.
  • MANAGES the medical care and detox process for all detox clients.
  • CONDUCTS the CIWA and COWS as indicated.
  • PROVIDES detox training to staff.
  • CONDUCTS history and physical exams on residential clients.
  • PROVIDES medical leadership and medical case consultation to the multi-disciplinary team.
  • ENSURES client medical and behavioral health care needs are addressed through the coordination of services with medication room staff.
  • CONDUCTS client psychiatric evaluations and prescribes appropriate medications under the scope of current license and physician supervision.
  • ASSISTS in crisis situations as indicated and completes appropriate documentation.
  • RECORDS significant events/concerns as related to client medical issues.
  • COMPLIES with all licensing and regulatory standards for medication storage, disposal, counting, reconciliation, etc.
  • ATTENDS program treatment team meetings, as required.
  • PROVIDES emergency direction as appropriate.
  • COORDINATES civil court commitment procedures as indicated.
  • PROVIDES phone consultation to managed care and insurance companies regarding client mental health issues as indicated.
  • PROVIDES staff training on issues related to dual diagnosis and medical complications related to addiction.
  • PARTICIPATES in agency committees as indicated.
  • ATTENDS monthly All Staff Meeting.
  • OTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED
