The Nurse Practitioner position is part of the Health Department and is classified as unclassified service, exempt from the Pima County Merit System Rules. The role involves direct supervision of Medical Assistants and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team in various health services including Family Planning, Teen Services, Mobile Services, STD/HIV, TB, Immunizations, Well Woman Health Check, and MAT. The Nurse Practitioner will provide clinical consultation and direction under the supervision of the Nurse Practitioner Supervisor and the Division Manager for administrative matters. Responsibilities include examining, evaluating, assessing, testing, and treating patients for infectious and STI-related diseases, providing family planning advice, administering screening and diagnostic tests, recording health histories, and assisting in the development of clinical protocols. The position may also involve outreach activities and public health emergency events.

  • Examine, evaluate, assess, test, and treat patients for infectious and STI-related diseases.
  • Provide counseling, education, and information on safe sex practices and disease prevention.
  • Offer family planning advice and counseling based on clients' reproductive intentions and medical eligibility.
  • Dispense contraception, including device/implant placement and removal.
  • Administer screening and diagnostic tests for infectious diseases and interpret results.
  • Record clients' health history, diagnoses, treatment plans, and medication in electronic health records.
  • Assist with the development of clinical protocols, policies, and procedures.
  • Evaluate the efficacy of medications and treatments and adjust as necessary.
  • Act as a preceptor for other nurse practitioners, medical students, interns, and residents.
  • Supervise, assign, and review the work of professional patient care services personnel.
  • Participate in outreach activities and public health emergency events.
  • Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • Certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the State of Arizona in the relevant specialty area.
  • At least six months of clinical practice experience in a public health or community setting.
  • Minimum one (1) year experience providing reproductive health care for both male and female clients.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).
  • Experience in addressing health disparities and promoting health equity.
  • Experience with initiating medical assisted treatment for substance use.
  • Minimum one (1) year experience leading and implementing evidence-based clinical practices.
