About The Position

The Nurse Practitioner examines and treats female patients independently and in autonomous collaboration with other health care professionals following established standards and practices. Ensures proper illness and injury care and disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. Relies on education, experience, professional training and judgement to accomplish responsibilities. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Works under minimal supervision under the direction of the collaborating physician, as appropriate. May lead and direct the work of others within scope of practice.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Nursing.
  • BLS Certification.
  • Current LA state RN license from LSBN.
  • Current LA Advanced Practice license from LSBN.
  • Certification in an Advanced Practice role by one of the national organizations listed by Louisiana State Board of Nursing: AANP, AACN, AMCB, ANCC, NBCRNA, NCC, or PNCB.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct patient assessments and document teaching and learning needs accurately.
  • Obtain detailed nursing history and identify patients at physiological and psychological risk.
  • Formulate appropriate diagnoses and order pertinent therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
  • Implement treatment plans with consults and referrals to the interdisciplinary team.
  • Reassess, revise, and modify the plan of care based on physiological and psychosocial findings.
  • Review patient plans of care with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Order tests and consults as required by the plan of care and review test results.
  • Discuss the plan of care with patients and families and document accordingly.
  • Provide education to patients based on identified risk factors.
  • Document all patient care activities as per documentation standards.
  • Evaluate outcomes of documentation and contribute to performance improvement initiatives.
  • Utilize multidisciplinary teams appropriately to achieve patient outcomes.
  • Precept students in accordance with specified guidelines.
  • Coordinate patient care activities and facilitate communication to maximize patient outcomes.
  • Identify, provide, develop, and maintain learning resources for the patient care team.
  • Ensure patient documentation is accurate and legible.
  • Provide safe therapeutic care in a holistic and systematic way.
  • Recognize trends in patient populations and explore alternatives to care.
  • Participate in clinical research and review current nursing research literature.
  • Analyze practices that contribute to variance and assist in drawing conclusions from aggregate data.
  • Assist in the development and revision of standards for patient populations.
  • Complete other duties as assigned within specified time frames.
  • Actively participate in hospital committees and quality improvement activities.
