About The Position

NeighborHealth’s Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Residency Program is a 12-month, full-time, salaried postgraduate training program designed for PMHNP Residents seeking advanced clinical and professional development in community-focused psychiatric care. The Residency provides structured, supervised, hands-on clinical training and formal didactics to support new graduates (within 18 months of graduation) in delivering individualized, evidence-based, patient-centered psychiatric care across the lifespan, while respecting patients’ backgrounds, needs, preferences, and life experiences.

Requirements

  • Newly graduated or newly certified PMHNPs (within 18 months of graduation) or those nearing graduation from an accredited Graduate Nursing program with Massachusetts licensure and board certification by June 15, 2026.
  • Dedication to providing culturally sensitive mental health care in FQHC or underserved settings.
  • Commitment to completing the full 12-month Residency program.
  • Demonstrated interest in community-based, integrated behavioral health care.
  • Ability to provide care that is individualized, respectful, and responsive to patient backgrounds, needs, and preferences.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in precepted general and specialty psychiatry sessions across multiple clinical sites.
  • Deliver care under direct supervision and consultation with experienced licensed preceptors (NPs and physicians).
  • Collaborate within an interdisciplinary integrated behavioral health model.
  • Engage in specialty experiences which may include Pediatric Psychiatry, Addiction Medicine, Geriatric Psychiatry, and Behavioral Health Urgent Care.
  • Incorporate patients’ values, preferences, living needs, and transitions of care into treatment planning.
  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric care—including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, crisis intervention, and collateral coordination—while ensuring accurate documentation, timely encounter submission, and appropriate billing.
  • Utilize supervision to refine psychopharmacology and clinical decision-making skills.
  • Attend weekly structured didactics addressing clinical psychiatry, integrated care, leadership, ethics, professionalism, and access-to-care considerations.
  • Demonstrate openness to diverse life experiences and constructive feedback.
  • Design and implement a QI project focused on improving patient outcomes, access, or care processes.
  • Participate in evaluation of outcomes and reflective practice.
  • Complete required documentation, evaluations, and self-assessments.
  • Participate in scheduled mentorship, supervision, and performance reviews.
  • Engage in professional development activities aligned with accreditation standards.
