About The Position

Sutter East Bay Medical Group (SEBMG) is seeking to hire a Preoperative Clinic Nurse Practitioner to join a collaborative group of clinicians who practice evidence-based medicine in a team-oriented manner. While working in the Preoperative Clinic you will practice Perioperative Medicine in efforts to optimize patients before they undergo surgery. This collaborative clinic is housed with APNs, Anesthesiologists and Hospitalists, providing opportunities to consult with colleagues from various specialties. Currently, the APNs working in this department maintain a hybrid working schedule of both in clinic and remote work. Note, providers must complete at least six months of working in clinic full-time and demonstrate the ability to work independently before being offered the opportunity to maintain a hybrid working schedule. The hired employee will join Sutter East Bay Medical Group (SEBMG), a rapidly growing multi-specialty medical group that was founded in 2005 and staffs more than ten care centers and four hospitals in the San Francisco East Bay Area. This position will support the surgical services for Alta Bates Summit Medical Center. The pre-operative clinic is housed at the Oakland Summit campus, therefore, there is no requirement for floating in between the campuses.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Nursing school.
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Current California License as a Registered Nurse.
  • Current California License as a Nurse Practitioner
  • Possess Furnishing Number from the State of California, Board of Registered Nursing.
  • Possess active DEA License

  • Ideally, 1+ years of experience working as a Nurse Practitioner

Responsibilities

  • Managing both acute and chronic health conditions while coordinating appropriate assessment and planning for the preoperative patient in accordance with state and federal rules and regulations.
  • The NP will work independently utilizing their full scope of practice to evaluate and care for patients with various comorbid conditions undergoing various surgical treatments
  • The NP is expected to be able to independently evaluate each surgical candidate, order appropriate preoperative testing and devise a medically appropriate plan for the patient’s perioperative encounter. Complex decision making is conducted in collaboration with Anesthesiologists, Hospitalists and/or Surgeons
  • The NP is expected to follow standards of care regarding assessment of health status, diagnosis, development of plans and implementation of treatments.
  • While the NP will not routinely prescribe pharmacologic treatments prior to surgery, they will need to maintain active DEA and furnishing license
