This role operates within a collaborative model, working with residents, fellows, attendings, and staff to care for outpatient clinic patients. The position functions under the supervision of a Medical Director or approved staff physician, in conjunction with PCCs, staff nurses, and discharge coordinators. Responsibilities include planning, implementing, and evaluating medical and nursing care, as well as primary and urgent medical management, emergency stabilization of critically ill patients, teaching residents and medical students, staff development, patient education, and discharge planning. The individual must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily, possessing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Requirements

  • Master’s degree in nursing (for Nurse Practitioner).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Physician Assistant Medicine or Health Sciences, or graduate of an approved Physician Assistant Training Program (for Physician Assistant).
  • Current License as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the state of practice (for Nurse Practitioner).
  • Family Nurse Practitioner or Adult/Geriatric Nurse Practitioner ANCC or AANPCP Certified for Family Nurse Practitioner or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner ANCC or AANPCP Certified (for Nurse Practitioner).
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) / Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Eligible for Prescriptive Authority in the state of practice as outlined by the State Board of Nursing (for Nurse Practitioner).
  • Licensed in the state of practice as a Physician Assistant (for Physician Assistant).
  • National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) Certification (for Physician Assistant).
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification from the American Heart Association (for Physician Assistant).
  • Eligible for Prescriptive Authority within the state of practice as outlined by the State Board of Nursing (for Physician Assistant).
  • Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of required job information.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
  • Proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Working knowledge of Advanced Practice Provider policies and protocols at a department and campus/system level.
  • Reliable transportation as must be able to travel throughout and between facilities.
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule (e.g. 24/7, weekend, holiday, on call availability).

Nice To Haves

  • 3 years of related working experience.
  • Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Medical Examiner Certification and registration with the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a collaborative model including residents, fellows, attendings, and staff who care for outpatient clinic patients.
  • Work under the supervision of the Medical Director or approved staff physician and in association with PCCs, staff nurses, and discharge coordinator in the planning, implementation and evaluation of medical and nursing care.
  • Assume responsibility for primary and urgent medical management.
  • Perform emergency stabilization of all critically ill patients.
  • Provide teaching of residents and medical students.
  • Contribute to staff development and education.
  • Provide patient education.
  • Perform discharge planning.
  • Utilize the approved medical practices process in the delivery of all patient care.
  • Provide care based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety and related criteria, appropriate to the ages of patients served in assigned areas.
  • Maintain an attitude of inquiry towards medical practices and patient care outcomes, and may develop research methodology.
  • Provide education experiences to patient families, staff, other health professionals, and to the community.
  • Adapt behavior to the specific patient population, including respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
  • Remain knowledgeable on current federal, state and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility and ensure compliance with all such laws, regulations and standards.
  • Report any known or suspected unethical or questionable behaviors or conduct; patient/employee safety, patient privacy, and/or other compliance-related concerns.
