Requirements

Nurse Practitioners: Work requires completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing.
Physician Assistants: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.
Nurse Practitioners: Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required. National certification as a NP required prior to or within 6 months of employment.
Physician Assistants: Must be licensed in the state of NC, and be certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.

Responsibilities

Provide a full spectrum of primary and acute care to both adult and pediatric patients
Conduct histories and physicals
Order and interpret laboratory studies
Perform basic outpatient procedures
Provide direct patient care services
Work independently seeing already established internal medicine and pediatric patients within the practice
Build/manage a panel of patients across the age spectrum while meeting needs of the practice
Work 8 four-hour clinical sessions a week
Work Saturday and evening clinics in addition to weekday responsibilities, consistent with other practice members
Take patient histories, conduct physical examinations, and plan assessments for patients based on age and medical issues
Be well versed in health care maintenance guidelines for all ages, including but not limited to vaccinations, anticipatory guidance, cancer screening and cardiovascular risk assessments
Prescribe medication and recommend procedures as needed
Coordinate care for patients
Write notes in Epic for each patient seen and have them closed within 3 business days
Order laboratory and radiologic studies as needed; explain necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic studies to the patient
Interpret studies and explain results to patients in a timely manner
See medically complex children and adults and be able to coordinate care as needed with specialists, therapists, and home health companies
Fill out forms for school, home health agencies, insurance companies, and therapists
Complete office procedures such as minor skin procedures, joint injections, etc.
Help create effective systems and protocols to enhance the clinic's operations as needed
Take part in practice's conferences, Division meetings, and CMEs
Regularly participate in various relevant educational programs to ensure both technical and professional competence are maintained
