About The Position

The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant for Inpatient Advanced Heart Failure at Inova Schar Heart and Vascular is a critical role focused on providing specialized cardiac services in an inpatient hospital setting. This position involves working under the supervision of Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiologists, where the provider will engage in daily rounds, patient consultations, and comprehensive care for patients with advanced heart failure. The role emphasizes collaboration within a multidisciplinary team to ensure high-quality patient care and effective treatment management.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) program.
  • Approval to practice as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in Virginia.
  • Current prescriptive privileges and DEA license required.
  • BLS and ACLS certification for Healthcare Providers from AHA, with expiration greater than 90 days from the start date.
  • For Nurse Practitioners: Master's Degree or Doctorate of Nursing Practice required, along with a Registered Nurse license and certification from a nationally recognized certifying body.
  • For Physician Assistants: Graduate from an accredited PA program required; Master's Degree preferred, with certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants preferred.
  • Cardiology experience required; prior heart failure experience preferred.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking and interpersonal skills in a high-acuity environment.

Nice To Haves

  • ACNP or AGACNP certification preferred based on population served.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct inpatient daily rounds and consultations.
  • Perform face-to-face and virtual clinic-based appointments.
  • Conduct patient examinations and assessments.
  • Manage medication therapy and adjustments.
  • Interpret laboratory and radiologic tests.
  • Evaluate, stabilize, and treat patients with acute and chronic heart failure conditions.
