JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS Scheduled Weekly Hours: 42 Work Shift : 7 on / 7 off, 12-hour shift (7p-7a ) Job Summary: The Acute Care APP will work in collaboration with the intensivist and other healthcare professionals while providing advanced, evidence-based clinical care to the critically ill adult patients in the ICU unit. Major areas of responsibilities include in-house management of the critical and non-critical patients in the Intensive Care Unit, participation in multidisciplinary rounds and quality initiatives. Required to work rotating 12 hour - 7 on / 7 off shifts which include weekends and/or holidays as indicated with fixed nights or days.

Requirements

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing or graduate of a accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Current Louisiana Advanced Practice Registered Nurse License – Acute Care or Physician Assistant Licensure
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in critical care or emergency medicine preferred, new graduates with relevant ICYU RN experience may be considered.
  • Familiarity with ventilator management and advanced life support
  • Strong clinical judgment, communication, and teamwork skills
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications through any International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) provided courses such as but not limited to: Ochsner Health System, American Heart Association and America Red Cross.
  • The ILCOR course must include a manikin check-off.
  • Must possess good physical health.
  • Some requirements include but are not limited to standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time.
  • Lifting at least 50 pounds is required.
  • Must be able to work with a moderate level of noise.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive assessments and develop differential diagnoses for critically ill patients.
  • Manage complex, multi- organ system failure and implement critical care protocols under the supervision and collaboration of the attending physician.
  • Placing orders for appropriate diagnostic and treatment modalities as part of the care plan and interpreting and responding to the results
  • Seeking appropriate specialty and sub-specialty consults
  • Document all care and procedures accurately and promptly in the medical record
  • Collaborate with all colleagues on the care team to ensure high quality care delivery
  • Communicate effectively with patients’ families, providing education and updates on plan of care and prognosis.
  • Respond to emergencies, codes, and rapid response calls within the ICU
