JOB OVERVIEW • Job Title: Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant – Emergency Medicine • Job Type: Locum Tenens • Location: Blacksburg, VA • Service Setting: Inpatient • Coverage Type: Clinical Only • Coverage Period: March 1, 2026 – Ongoing • Clinical Shift Schedule: Flexible schedule including days, nights, weekends, and holidays COVERAGE DATES • Ongoing coverage beginning March 1, 2026 • Open-ended contract based on coverage needs PATIENT INFORMATION • Patient Demographics: All ages • Patient Volume/Census: Approximately 40,000 combined annual ED visits between main hospital and freestanding ED • Admissions: Yes • Rounding: Included as part of ED coverage • Phone Consults: As required • Case Mix: Full-scope emergency medicine FACILITY INFORMATION • No. of Beds in Department: 146 hospital beds • Trauma Level: Level III • EMR System: Meditech • Office Equipment Available: Standard emergency department equipment • Specialty Backup Available: Physician coverage • Support Staff Available: 24-hour NP/PA coverage • Reason for Coverage: Coverage need PRIVILEGES & COMPLIANCE • Hospital Privileges Required: Yes • Cross-Credentialing Required: Yes, LewisGale Christiansburg Freestanding ED • License Requirement: Active Virginia license required prior to credentialing • DEA Requirement: Active DEA required prior to credentialing COMPENSATION & BENEFITS • Overtime: Daily OT after 12 hours and weekly OT after 168 hours, differential applied • Travel, Lodging, and Malpractice Insurance: Not specified REQUIRED PROCEDURES • Emergency department procedures consistent with advanced practice emergency medicine coverage JOB REQUIREMENTS • Licenses: Active Virginia NP or PA license required • Board: Applicable national certification for NP or PA • DEA: Active DEA required • Certifications: Emergency medicine–related certifications per facility standards • Experience: Emergency department experience required • Other Qualifications: Must be willing to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES • Provide comprehensive emergency care to patients of all ages • Cover emergency department shifts at LewisGale Hospital-Montgomery and LewisGale Christiansburg as needed • Manage patient flow and clinical decision-making in a Level III Trauma Center • Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, and ancillary services • Document all encounters accurately in Meditech EMR

Requirements

Active Virginia NP or PA license required
Applicable national certification for NP or PA
Active DEA required
Emergency medicine–related certifications per facility standards
Emergency department experience required
Must be willing to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays

Responsibilities

Provide comprehensive emergency care to patients of all ages
Cover emergency department shifts at LewisGale Hospital-Montgomery and LewisGale Christiansburg as needed
Manage patient flow and clinical decision-making in a Level III Trauma Center
Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, and ancillary services
Document all encounters accurately in Meditech EMR
