Requirements

  • 2+ years of General Orthopaedics Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant work and surgery experience with Orthopedics - Spine patients.
  • Nurse Practitioners: Work requires completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing.
  • Physician Assistants: Work requires completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.
  • If a Nurse Practitioner, RNFA certification required.
  • BLS required.
  • Nurse Practitioners: Must have current or compact RN licensure & NP approval to practice in the state of North Carolina. National certification as a NP required.
  • Physician Assistants: Must be licensed in the state of NC, and be certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.

Responsibilities

  • Provide care for patients needing spine and general orthopedic care.
  • Coordinate patient care including triage, physical exams, collecting and documenting data, conducting diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, ordering and scheduling laboratory studies, assisting with peri-operative workflow including scheduling, pre-ops, and post-op follow-up, diagnostic procedures and professional consultations, and prescribing appropriate interventions and medications.
  • Carry out therapeutic procedures such as, wound suturing and dressing changes.
  • Monitor progress of patients, report progress to supervising physician, and maintain record of each patient's progress, consulting with the supervising physician when patient's progress does not meet anticipated and/or predetermined criteria.
  • Refer general orthopedic patients to other services as needed to meet the needs of the patients.
