About The Position

We are seeking an Advanced Practice Provider for our Duke Cardiology Cary location in Cary, NC to provide direct patient care services in collaboration with our general cardiology team. Patient population will include those with general cardiovascular disease/conditions, heart failure, and structural heart disease. The APP will work in collaboration with physicians and advanced practice providers, collecting and documenting data, conducting diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, ordering and scheduling laboratory studies and professional consultations, and providing direct patient care services. The position is full-time (40 hours per week). Primary hours will be Monday through Friday with hours flexible to meet the needs of the patients and the division.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing for Nurse Practitioners.
  • Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred for Physician Assistants.
  • ACLS prior to or within 3 months of employment.
  • BLS required.
  • Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina for Nurse Practitioners.
  • National certification as a NP required for Nurse Practitioners.
  • Must be licensed in the state of NC, and be certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
  • 1+ years of Cardiology APP experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Take patient histories, conduct physical examinations, and record data in the patient's record.
  • Write progress notes; prepare patient workups and summaries noting pertinent positive and negative findings.
  • Obtain psychosocial history relevant to patient care, and assume responsibility for developing therapeutic relationships with patients.
  • Order and schedule laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures; explain necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient.
  • Review laboratory data and diagnostic testing, communicate and interpret results to patients.
  • Perform medical decision making- create a plan of care for the patient.
  • Collaborate with Heart Center Communications to triage urgent calls.
  • Collaborate with other NP/PAs to ensure clinic and telephone coverage.
