About The Position

This is a full-time position for a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the CVICU with rotating night and day shifts. The role includes responsibilities such as providing advanced patient assessment, developing differential diagnoses, making advanced clinical decisions, initiating and modifying treatment plans, and collaborating with consulting services to implement recommendations. The position also involves performing invasive procedures in collaboration with attending cardiac surgeons for primary patients in the CVS GPU. Additional responsibilities include conducting history and physical examinations and consultations for other inpatient services on non-primary patients being worked up for cardiac surgery. The APP should be comfortable practicing independently, as clinical activities are authorized and performed under the supervision of a physician member or medical staff. Prescriptive authority is a delegated privilege under the collaborating physician. The NP or PA will work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary critical care unit, providing inpatient medical care for critically ill patients requiring ICU level of care and ensuring patient outcomes are achieved safely and efficiently.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in nursing or Bachelor's degree or completion of an AMA-approved Physician Assistant program.
  • 1 year of experience in ICU or with the Cardiology field as an NP, PA or RN required.
  • Current certification as a Certified Nurse Practitioner or Michigan state Physician Assistant licensure.
  • Continued certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Current state license as a Registered Nurse.
  • Current ACLS/BLS certification as required.
  • Current ATLS/PALS provider status as required.
  • DEA required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide inpatient medical care for critically ill patients requiring ICU level of care.
  • Collaborate with intensivist physicians, attending physicians, consultants, house officers, nurses, and other medical care team members.
