About The Position

The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant (APP) for Lung Transplant Outpatient at Inova Fairfax Medical Campus is responsible for providing comprehensive patient care in an inpatient clinical setting. This role involves exercising independent judgment in assessment, diagnosis, and initiation of medical processes, adhering to the nurse practitioner licensure regulations of Virginia. The APP will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to achieve optimal patient outcomes, utilizing evidence-based standards and protocols for care delivery. The position operates on a Monday to Friday day shift schedule, with rotational weekend coverage and no call or night shifts required.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) program.
  • Approval to practice as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in Virginia.
  • Current prescriptive privileges and DEA license required.
  • BLS and ACLS certification for Healthcare Provider from AHA, with expiration greater than 90 days from the start of practice.
  • For Nurse Practitioners: Master's Degree or Doctorate of Nursing Practice required; License to practice as a Registered Nurse required; Certification from a nationally recognized certifying body required.
  • For Physician Assistants: Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program required; Master's Degree preferred; Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants preferred.
  • Inpatient experience required; prior transplant and/or pulmonary experience preferred.
  • Demonstrate appropriate critical thinking and interpersonal skills in a fast-paced, high acuity work environment.

Nice To Haves

  • ACNP or AGACNP certification preferred based on population served.

Responsibilities
