About The Position

This Nurse Practitioner position serves as the primary overseer of Diabetes Education for the Division of Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes. The NP will be responsible in-patient and outpatient, working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary diabetes care team and is responsible for providing comprehensive and age-appropriate care to both well and/or ill patients. The Nurse Practitioner will be in charge of coordinating, communicating care, and educating inpatients with new-onset diabetes. He or she will provide comprehensive diabetes self-management education, in collaboration with the medical team, to inpatients with new-onset diabetes and their families, and coordinate discharge and the transition from inpatient to outpatient diabetes care teams. In addition, the NP will provide clinical care and diabetes education to a subset of patients with diabetes in the outpatient clinic setting as well. The Nurse Practitioner will work collaboratively with the Division Director and Diabetes Center Director to evaluate best practices in pediatric diabetes education nationwide and help to develop new diabetes education initiatives for the Division. The Nurse Practitioner practices within the guidelines of the unit department, and institution and in accordance with the Nurse Practitioner- Physician Written Agreement required and approved by the State of Maryland.

Requirements

  • MSN/DNP from an accredited nursing program required.
  • Active Maryland or Compact RN and CRNP license are required.
  • Current certifications as a Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner in the State of Maryland.
  • BLS CPR certification required: AHA, Red Cross, or Military Training Network accepted.
  • Prior experience in diabetes education, with a preference for candidates who hold or are eligible for the Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) credential.
  • RN work experience in pediatrics is preferred.
  • No NP work experience required.
  • If ordering or referring items or services for Medicare beneficiaries, enrollment application to Medicare is required.

Responsibilities
