About The Position

The Pediatric Surgery Nurse Practitioner at UTHealth is responsible for the advanced assessment, diagnosis, and management of pediatric surgical patients. This role involves coordinating care with ancillary staff and managing outpatient services for complex discharge and follow-up needs. The NP will evaluate and manage common pediatric surgical issues and lead specialty programs, working in a team-based environment to provide high-quality care.

Requirements

• Current Texas Licensure as a Registered Nurse
• Current Texas Licensure as an APRN-NP and specialty certification as required by the department
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certified
• Masters in Nursing as NP or Masters degree in Nursing with completion of a post-masters Nurse Practitioner Certification Program.

Responsibilities

• Performs relevant patient assessments and physical examinations.
• Coordinates, directs, and implements patient's plan of care.
• Orders, conducts, and interprets pertinent laboratory and diagnostic studies and procedures.
• Makes medical recommendations and/or referrals.
• Formulates, implements and evaluates an outcome-based treatment plan.
• Maintains appropriate records detailing the patient's treatment plans and outcomes.
• Facilitates patient education relating to medical processes, medication, nutrition, and health promotion.
• Collaborates with patients, families, other clinicians, and referral services to assist in the patient's recovery.
• Other duties as assigned.
