Responsibilities
Provides direct patient care management to high acuity patients including performing histories and physicals, admits, and discharges; related to the care of specialty patients focusing on the maintenance, achievement, and restoration of optimal functions of patients.
The NP will also visit patients prior to surgery, conduct discharge teaching afterward, and prescribe medications, including narcotics.
Plans, implements and evaluates nursing medical care consistent with medical treatment and care in collaboration with a physician. Additionally, the practitioner will initiate or modify medical treatment within an established plan of medical protocol.
The NP will assist with consults, write orders, coordinate with consulting physicians, and accompany physicians on rounds. The NP will analyze clinical data; order and/or perform necessary diagnostic tests or procedures; develop, implement, and evaluate the therapeutic regimen.
The NP will teach and provide support for patients and their families; minimize fragmentation by providing coordination of care; manage transition of the patient to step-down units or to out-patient settings; and serve as patient advocates.
Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
