About The Position
Advanced practice nurses are existing registered nurses who provide care in collaboration with physicians. The primary types of advanced practice nurses at Witham include nurse practitioners and clinical nurse specialists. Advanced practice nurses are authorized to prescribe medication per state requirements. The advance practice nurse is an expert in a special field and works directly with patients who have specific needs such as mental health, orthopedics, cardiac, pediatric and geriatrics. The nurse practitioner is the most general of the advanced practice nurse specialties. Nurse practitioners work with families and individuals to lend their expertise in areas like women's care, mental health, adult acute care, geriatrics and pediatrics. They focus on general health and well-being, in addition to patient education and prevention. Both types of advanced nurses have acquired the knowledge base and practice experiences that prepare them for specialization, expansion (new skills), and selected practice roles.
