About The Position

Cardiothoracic Surgery Advanced Practice Provider (APP) classified as Level IV surgical position covering operating room, ICU, step down unit, and outpatient clinic. OR responsibilities: first assist in cardiac and thoracic surgery cases, endoscopic vein harvest, open vein harvest, radial artery harvest. Hospital responsibilities: Preoperative admissions, consultations, medical optimization/ management, ICU, step down, and discharges. Outpatient clinic responsibilities: new consults, established patient care, postoperative follow up visits, and coordination of follow up care with other services. The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant at Mayo Clinic may perform the following tasks in any authorized setting: Surgical first assist Obtaining patient history Performing physical examinations Ordering and performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures Formulating a diagnostic impression Developing and implementing a treatment plan Monitoring effectiveness of therapeutic interventions Offering counseling and education to meet patient needs Making appropriate referrals Prescribing and dispensing prescription medication in accordance with FL state laws and department policies Performing minor procedures and surgical procedures Demonstrates ability to assess data reflective of patient's status and appropriately interprets information relative to patient's age-specific needs. Assist with ongoing departmental process improvement and policy development Other departmental or institutional committee assignments as needed During the selection process you may participate in an OnDemand (pre-recorded) interview that you can complete at your convenience. Requirements

  • New Grads will not be considered at this time.
  • Minimum 2 years’ NP/PA experience preferably in cardiac and/ or thoracic surgery.
  • Nurse Practitioner: Masters-prepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing and Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Current FL RN and APRN license and certification as a FNP, ANP, ACNP.
  • Physician Assistant: Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program with current PA certification by NCCPA and registration as a PA by the FL State Board of Medical Practice.
  • Must have surgical first assist experience in the operating room.
  • Active BLS and ACLS certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross at start date and DEA registration required.
