About The Position

University of Minnesota Physicians is seeking a Certified Nurse Practitioner or a Certified Physician Assistant to join our Vascular Surgery practice in Minneapolis. Work for the M Health University of Minnesota Medical Center Vascular Surgery Service, directed by Dr. Daniel Ihnat, Professor and Division Chief, in a non-operative role. This is a Monday-Friday position with no nights or weekends. There is the option to work 4 ten-hour days once off orientation. This is a tremendous opportunity to practice independently while being part of a renowned vascular care team consisting of vascular surgeons, interventional radiologists, residents, fellows, nursing staff, and registered vascular technologists.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or formal Adult Nurse Practitioner training program.
  • Eligible or certified through NCCPA, ANCC or AANP.
  • Licensed or eligible to acquire a license and prescriptive authority through the MN Board of Medical Practice (PAs) or MN APRN license or eligible to acquire a license and prescriptive authority through MN Board of Nursing (NP’s).
  • Able to meet threshold criteria/qualifications for credentialing and privileges.
  • At least 3 years of experience in caring for Vascular Surgery or Surgical inpatients.
  • Flexible and adaptable, able to rotate between inpatient, outpatient, and outreach clinics depending on team needs.
  • Confident in managing complexity in a fast-paced academic surgical environment while maintaining professionalism.

  • Works well as a part of a team.
  • Knowledge of advanced vascular assessment, diagnostics, inpatient/outpatient management, vascular wound care, and pharmacology.
  • Experience working with surgical residents and fellows at another academic institution.

Responsibilities

  • Practice in a combined inpatient and outpatient clinical practice setting.
  • Be responsible for daily inpatient ward rounds with resident and fellow team, completion of discharge summaries, and consults on the East and West Bank Hospitals.
  • Optimize care plans, develop algorithms, and coordinate hospital discharge.
  • Evaluate and treat vascular patients in the hospital in collaboration with staff Vascular Surgeon.
  • Evaluate and treat vascular patients in the clinic independently.
  • Refer patients to the appropriate vascular surgeons within the department and/or other specialists accordingly.
  • Provide extremity wound care - debridement, dressing, VAC placement.
  • Be a strong communicator who can educate patients, families, and learners.
  • Adapt explanations regarding disease process, interventions, and postoperative or post-procedure care to different audiences.
  • Actively participate in staff education and administrative activities.
