About The Position

Sutter Medical Group (SMG) seeks to hire a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our dynamic Breast Surgical Oncology team in Sacramento, CA! Our Breast Surgical Oncology team is seeking a motivated and collaborative Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join a high-performing service that provides comprehensive care across benign and malignant breast conditions, melanoma, and high‑risk surveillance. This role offers a blend of outpatient clinic, procedural care, perioperative management, and surgical first-assist opportunities—ideal for an APP who wants to practice at the top of their license. We are a growing program with two high-volume surgeons (1.5 FTE total) and are expanding capacity to improve access for benign breast disease, survivorship care, melanoma, and perioperative support. Position Highlights 70–80% outpatient and 20–30% OR/hospital coverage Hybrid role with clinic, inpatient rounding, and surgical first assist Monday–Friday, full-time schedule No nights, weekends, or call Dedicated MA support Participate in multidisciplinary tumor boards Quality involvement: ~10% of time supporting NAPBC quality improvement projects

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited NP or PA program with appropriate national certification (e.g., AANP, ANCC, NCCPA).
  • California licensure eligibility and clearances (NP/PA licensure required).
  • Exceptional communication skills, comfortable working in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment including patient/family interactions.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in surgical oncology is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct new patient consults for:
  • Benign breast disease
  • High‑risk breast patients (e.g., BRCA, genetic risk)
  • Melanoma (skin checks and follow-up)
  • Breast cancer survivorship
  • Provide pre‑ and post‑operative patient education
  • Manage medical care for high‑risk lesions and high‑risk cancer patients
  • Review and interpret:
  • Mammograms, MRIs, CT scans
  • Pathology reports
  • Laboratory results
  • Prescribe and manage adjuvant therapies
  • Manage postoperative care including drain removal and wound care
  • Handle postoperative follow-up phone calls
  • Manage personal in-basket and assist with MD in-basket when needed
  • Surgical first assist (first or second assist depending on case)
  • Perform clinic procedures:
  • Punch biopsies
  • Needle biopsies
  • Perioperative responsibilities:
  • Write pre-op and post-op orders
  • Assist in managing postoperative complications
  • Support discharge planning
