About The Position

The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will work in the Primary Care department at Northwestern Medicine, providing comprehensive patient care and supporting the practice's needs. This role involves managing patient overflow, conducting health assessments, and collaborating with healthcare professionals to ensure quality patient outcomes. The position requires a commitment to patient advocacy and education, as well as participation in quality improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Master's degree from an accredited school/college of nursing or Physician Assistant Program.
  • Current license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.
  • Current license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois or as a Physician Assistant.
  • Certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by a national certifying body approved by the Illinois Department of Regulation APRN Board.
  • Privileged and credentialed through the Northwestern Medicine Medical Staff Office (MSO).
  • Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation - BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive appraisals of patients' health status by taking health histories and performing physical examinations.
  • Provide direct clinical care to patients.
  • Prescribe medications and therapies; order and interpret laboratory tests, x-rays, and procedures according to clinical privileges.
  • Evaluate patients to determine their need for further health care.
  • Document all care and education provided in the medical record.
  • Refer patients to other disciplines as appropriate.
  • Serve as a consultant to other disciplines in areas of expertise.
  • Integrate research-based knowledge and clinical expertise in decision making.
  • Maintain a professional image in appearance, manner, and presentation.
  • Advocate for patients, families, coworkers, and the community.
  • Participate in committees/task forces as appropriate.
  • Provide comprehensive teaching strategies for patients and their families.
  • Develop and participate in programs to meet continuing education needs of staff.
  • Serve as a role model and preceptor to students.
  • Participate in quality improvement and/or research initiatives.
