About The Position

Geisinger's Cancer Institute is seeking an Advanced Practitioner to join their talented team at Geisinger Lewistown Hospital (GLH) in Lewistown, PA. The role involves assessing and establishing a presumptive diagnosis and implementing treatment plans for the patient population. The practitioner will make accurate and complete entries into the electronic medical record, order and interpret diagnostic testing, consult as appropriate, and prescribe medical therapy utilizing evidence-based practice. Responsibilities also include evaluating and reporting to the collaborating physician any significant risks to the patient's health, performing procedures within the scope of practice, and communicating effectively with patients and healthcare staff. The work is typically performed in a clinical environment, and the practitioner is accountable for satisfying all job-specific obligations and complying with organizational policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
  • Basic Life Support Certification.
  • Certified Nurse Practitioner from the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
  • Licensed Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses and establishes a presumptive diagnosis and implements treatment plans for patients.
  • Makes accurate and complete entries into the electronic medical record.
  • Orders and interprets diagnostic testing and consults as appropriate.
  • Prescribes appropriate medical therapy utilizing evidence-based practice.
  • Prescribes, adjusts, or discontinues medications or therapies as appropriate.
  • Evaluates and reports to collaborating physician any significant risks to patient's health.
  • Performs procedures within the scope of practice of the nurse practitioner license.
  • Communicates with collaborative physician, patient, PCP, and referring staff.
  • Instills confidence in patients by providing safe, ethical care and health education.
  • Interprets and follows policies and guidelines to meet goals and deadlines.
