About The Position

The Physician Assistant (PA) position at Avera Aberdeen Family Physicians involves providing appropriate medical care to patients by assessing their physical, psychological, and social dimensions to develop a comprehensive plan of care. The role requires the PA to work primarily with nursing homes in the community, starting with Mother Joseph Manor, and expanding as the group grows. The PA must be licensed and qualified to practice in the state based on job assignment and must hold certifications from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

Requirements

  • Must be a Certified Nurse Practitioner (CNP) with an active license in the state of practice.
  • Must hold a Federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration.
  • Must be a Registered Nurse (RN) with an active license in the state of practice.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions satisfactorily, including visual acuity and effective communication.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, diagnose, and treat patients according to medical staff approved protocol and acceptable standards of practice.
  • Provide medical services and health education to patients and family members.
  • Contribute to the health education of individuals and groups, applying methods to increase motivation for self-care.
  • Consult and collaborate with physicians in assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients.
  • Perform necessary diagnostic and therapeutic procedures according to written, approved protocols.
  • Interpret information gathered during the diagnostic process and consult with physicians regarding abnormal findings.
  • Make appropriate referrals for patients.
  • Provide quality care for patients, demonstrating health, safety, and aseptic practices.
  • Maintain patient records and ensure accurate information.
